The Paisley Ladies

Joan Giddings Turley - Watercolor Series
The Paisley Suit

The year was 1966, gas was 32 cents a gallon and paisley prints were the height of fashion. The green and yellow two-piece paisley suit seen here was Joan’s selection for her first date with the man who would eventually be her husband, John E Turley.

While both the style and 32 cents per gallon are ancient history, what Joan liked to wear and the man she grew to love, inspire her art today.

After the first two pieces of her paisley themed watercolors sold quickly, a friend encouraged Joan to add the vintage look to women from some of the world's most iconic painters. As it is with her love of her husband, and timeless paisley prints, Joan’s celebrated watercolor series lives on.
